The shortage of rice in the market is artificial – MoC

The Marada-gaha-mula Rice Producers Association says that the price of Nadu rice in the market has exceeded the controlled price. The reason for this is the shortage of ‘nadu’ paddy.

A kilogram of that rice is sold in the retail market at 230 rupees. However, the chairman Mr. B K Ranjith said that the maximum retail price for nadu is 220 rupees.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture states that the paddy yield was at an optimal level in the last season and this season. Accordingly, there is an artificial shortage of rice in the market. The Trade Ministry says that it has paid close attention to the current situation.

Its secretary Mr. M M Naimuddin said that a solution will be reached after discussions with the mill owners. At the same time, Sathosa has implemented a program to directly purchase nadu, turn it into rice and release it to the market.
