Releasing  of preferential numbers of the candidates has been completed. 

The election commission council says that releasing  of preferential numbers of the candidates who will contest at the generation election has been completed.  

422 recognized political parties and 284 independent candidates will contest at the election for 22 districts.   

8,352 candidates have received their preferential numbers.  The majority of candidates are contesting from the Colombo district which is 966.  120 candidates will contest from the Polonnaruwa district.  

A special meeting to acknowledge  candidates and relevant representatives of the Anuradhapura district  regarding the conducting of  the parliamentary election was held at the district secretariat office this morning under the  patronage of the district returning officer Ranjith Wimalasooriya. 

17 political recognized parties and 312 candidates from nine independent groups will contest from the Anuradhapura district.
