The flood warning notice issued for the Kelani river basin is still valid today. The Disaster Management Center informs that the people around Kelani river basin should be very vigilant.
The catchment areas of the Attanagalu Oya basin have also received heavy rains in the last few hours. Therefore, the people in the low-lying areas of Divulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalle, Mahara,
Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana and Wattala divisional Secretariat areas should be vigilant. The Disaster Management Center informs that the people around the Uruwal Oya valley should also be vigilant.
Kalu and Ging river catchment areas have also received heavy rainfall. The people around it should also pay attention to the warning notice
According to the Disaster Management Centre, over 130,000 individuals from 33,279 families in 12 districts have been affected by floods and landslides in 11 districts due to the adverse weather conditions experienced in recent days. 3 deaths have been reported. 298 houses damaged.
At present, 6,954 individuals from 1,796 families are being sheltered in 81 relief centers. Relief operations, in all affected districts, have already begun, co-ordinated by state officials through the Chief of Defence Staff’s office.
The statement further said that emergency situations can be reported by contacting the Disaster Management Centre’s hotline number – 117 or by calling 0112 136,136, 0112 136 222, or 0112 670 002.
The Sri Lanka Air Force has mobilised aircraft and troops in anticipation of potential emergencies due to the current adverse weather conditions.
Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa has instructed to be ready for relief and rescue operations in case of emergency.
