Best wishes of UN Secretary-General to the President.
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Mark Andrews met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday at the Presidential Office.
During the meeting, Andrews conveyed the best wishes of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President. He highlighted the ethical nature of President Dissanayake’s political agenda during the recent presidential election and expressed appreciation for the President’s policy statement.
Andrews noted that, given the high public expectations, the upcoming period would be challenging. He assured that the UN would fully support Sri Lanka’s programs with the International Monetary Fund and efforts to alleviate poverty.
He also commended the anti-corruption measures outlined in the President’s electoral policy statement and confirmed that the UN would provide technical and financial assistance for those initiatives.
