All election propaganda activities will end  by Wednesday

The Election Commission says that all election propaganda activities related to the presidential election should be completed by midnight next Wednesday.

After that, any political party or candidate or a supporter is totally prohibited from engaging in election propaganda activities. The commission states that the police have the authority to remove stickers, posters and cutouts which are affixed in a manner promoting candidates or parties on public or private vehicles.

A period of 6 weeks was given for campaigning in the presidential election. According to the election law, all campaign activities must be suspended 48 hours before the date of the election.

The Ministry of Education has announced that all schools in the island will be closed next Friday as requested by the Election Commission.

All those schools will be restarted on the 23rd. The schools used as polling stations should be handed over to the concerned grama sewa official after school hours next Thursday.

The Ministry says that all regional education directors and principals have been informed to provide necessary tables, chairs and hall facilities for polling stations. The schools used as vote counting centers will be closed according to the requirements of the election commission.
