The Election Commission stresses that only a limited number of individuals are permitted to engage in door-to-door canvassing to promote presidential candidates.
During a press briefing held today in Colombo Chairman of the Commission R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said that under the current law, the door-to-door campaigning is strictly regulated and no more than five individuals allowed participating in distributing leaflets to voters.
He further clarified that holding political marches during door-to-door campaigns is generally restricted, in line with the legal guidelines.
He also said only the vehicles of candidates contesting the election themselves are authorized to display promotional materials.
He added any other vehicles found bearing candidate stickers or other campaign-related displays are in violation of election laws.
The Election Commission also reported that 209 additional complaints have been received related to the presidential election within the past 24 hours.
In a statement, the commission noted that 204 of these complaints were received related to violations of election laws, and 02 other complaints related to acts of violence.
