Elpitiya Regional Council polls begins tomorrow.

Accepting nominations for the Elpitiya Regional Council polls will begin tomorrow.  The Election Commission says that nominations can be handed in at the Galle District Secretariat next Thursday until 12.00 noon.

Our correspondents said that the party secretaries are preparing the lists of candidates appearing for the polls these days.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna recently deposited deposit money to contest the Elpitiya local council elections.  During the previous few years, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna ruled the Elpitiya Regional Council.

However, former chairman and next appointed chairman had to resign from the post because the budget provided for the year was repeatedly rejected. After the issue the local council was brought under the control of a commissioner.
