Presidential election is not focused on ethnic or religious differences – Muslim MPs
Muslim parliamentarians who support the President state that, compared to previous elections, the current presidential election is not focused on ethnic or religious differences.
They emphasize that what all Sri Lankans need is a country where they can live in peace and prosperity. During a media briefing held in Colombo, the Muslim parliamentarians expressed their support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
They noted that 60% of the Muslim community is prepared to support Wickremesinghe in this presidential election.
Minister Ali Sabri, who expressed his views at the event, stated that, while there were occasions when Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake were asked to take charge of the country during times of crisis, they did not come forward.
He mentioned that they had hidden due to a lack of experience. He highlighted the need to entrust the country’s affairs to an experienced leader based on the current successes of the country.
Victor Stanley, the Jaffna District Coordinator for the United People’s Freedom Alliance, stated that the current President has given hope to people who had lost expectations.
He remarked that it was Wickremesinghe who ended the era of the “police state” and suggested that the current President should be re-elected without further distraction from various factions.
This statement was made during a press conference held at the President’s election operation office on Malpura Road, Colombo.
