The Met Department forecasts that showers will occur many areas in the country this evening. Heavy showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Several spells of showers will occur in the North-western province and in the Matale district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces and in the Mullaitivu districts in the evening or night.

The Naval and fishing communities are advised to not venture into the Arabian Sea areas due to the active south-west monsoonal conditions, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Met Department said. While issuing a warning for strong winds and rough seas for the next 24 hours, the department said the above communities are advised to not venture into the sea areas until further notice. Accordingly, those who are out at sea are advised to return to the coast or move to safer areas immediately. The fishing and naval communities are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the department in this regard.
