Deadline extended for postal voting applications

Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said that the deadline to accept postal voting applications, which was scheduled to end at midnight today, has been extended.

Accordingly, the relevant deadline has been extended until 12.00 midnight on the 09th of this month. The Elections Commissioner General said that this decision was made in consideration of the possible postal delays and several requests made by the public to the commission.

Furthermore, the election regulatory body highlighted that the deadline for accepting the relevant applications will not be extended further under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, Cash deposits have been placed for a total of 17 candidates so far to contest the 2024 Presidential Elections. Three candidates had placed bonds at the National Election Commission today to contest the Presidential election. SJB Chairman Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka and former JVP MP Siripala Amarasinghe are among them.
