The Attorney General informed the Speaker to comply with the Supreme Court decision on IGP
The Attorney General has informed the Speaker, to comply with the recent Supreme Court decision regarding the Inspector General of Police.
This decision comes after the Speaker pursued advice from the Attorney General’s office in response to this matter. The Attorney General’s Department has taken steps to prepare a comprehensive advisory report related to the issues of the IGP. The report aims to guide the Speaker on how to proceed in light of the recent legal developments.
The Supreme Court recently issued an interim injunction preventing Deshbandu Tennakoon from serving as the Inspector General of Police. In response, President Ranil Wickremasinghe has called for dialogue between the Chief Justice and the Speaker to resolve the issue promptly.
