Polls close in key state of Georgia as Trump and Harris pick up early wins
Polls close in the key swing state of Georgia as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris pick up their first early wins.
Trump is projected to win traditionally Republican states Indiana and Kentucky; Democratic stronghold Vermont goes to Harris.
The state of democracy and the economy are the top issues for voters, early exit polls suggest. Americans are also picking members of the US Congress, and some states are voting on abortion rights.
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival, Donald Trump, are vying for the presidency of the United States.
Polls have started closing in parts of the country, while voting in the November 5 election continues largely smoothly across the rest of the US.
Pre-Election Day surveys showed the two candidates in a tight race nationally and in seven swing states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. To win the presidency, a candidate needs at least 270 Electoral votes.
