Train services between Colombo and Batticaloa will be cancelled.

The Department of Railways says that all scheduled train journeys between Colombo Fort and Batticaloa have been cancelled today. The reason for this is that a fuel transport train collided with wild elephants in the area between Galoya and Higurakgoda.

The engine of the train and 04 fuel wagons were damaged in the accident. Two wild elephants have also died. The department stated that another group of wild elephants that were hit by the train had fled.

At around 3.30 this morning, the fuel transport train Minneriya, which was running from Colonna to Batticaloa, has met with an accident near the 146th mile post.
