Over twenty two thousand people have been affected by the rainy weather.

A heavy rainfall has been reported in most of areas of Aththanagalu Oya basin.

By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water level of Hydrological stations in Aththanagalu Oya, it is warned that there is a high possibility of occurring a Major Flood Situation in low line areas of Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya Valleys situated in Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana and Wattala D/S Divisions within next 24 hours. Owing to this situation, there is a possibility of inundating some of the roads running through these low line areas at some places.

It is requested to pay high attention in this regard by the residents and vehicle drivers running through those areas. Disaster Management Authorities are requested to take adequate precautions in this regard.

The Disaster Management Center says that over twenty two thousand people have been affected by the rainy weather.

Flooding is reported in many parts of the island due to heavy rains. Galle. Matara. Kalutara and Gampaha districts are among them. Many roads in those districts have been flooded and traffic has been disrupted.

The center says that many houses are also under water. Irrigation Director SPC Sugishwara says that the water levels of many rivers in the island have risen due to the heavy rains.

Mr. Sajith Wickramasuriya, duty meteorologist of the Department of Meteorology, says that some places in the western and Sabaragamuwa provinces of the island, as well as Galle and Matara districts can expect heavy rains exceeding 100 millimeters today.

The rest of the island will experience scattered rain or thundershowers in the evening or night. Some places may receive more than 75 mm of rain.

In Western, Sabaragamuwa, South, North-West and Central Provinces, strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour may occur from time to time.
