Foreign exchange revenue from tourism has reached USD 181 million.

Foreign exchange revenue from tourism has reached USD 181 million in Sri Lanka within the month of September. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said Sri Lanka had earned  USD 152 million as tourism earnings last September.

The CBSL said the revenue represents a significant increase and revenue earned during the first nine months of this year has surged by 61.2%, totalling USD 2.35 billion.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority’s weekly report indicated that there were 122,140 tourist arrivals in September, marking a 9.11% increase from 111,938 arrivals in September of the previous year.

According to Tourism Development Authority’s, the number of tourist arrivals for the first nine months of 2024 stands at 1.48 million and Sri Lanka is expecting a total of 2.3 million tourist arrivals for the year.
