National Pension Day marks today.

Today marks National Pension Day, declared to honour the Sri Lankan retired community. Currently, the retired population in the country exceeds 720,000, and the government has allocated over 4.34 billion rupees for pension payments this year.

In a message issued for National Pension Day, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya reflects on the dedication of the retired community as contributors to the workforce, emphasizing their commitment to the progress of the motherland. S

he points out that it is everyone’s utmost responsibility to ensure that retired citizens live as healthy, spiritually fulfilled, and culturally enriched members of society.

The government’s goal is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens in every aspect—spiritual, social, and economic.

The Prime Minister expresses her aspiration that the retired community will play an active role in the development of a comprehensive social security program that provides pensions to every citizen.

She highlights the hope that they will continue to contribute as active citizens in societal progress.
