She emphasized that public trust in political authority and the civil service is crucial for nation-building. Referring to the staff of the Prime Minister’s Office, she mentioned that the government never underestimates the importance of the civil service.

Actions must be taken in every situation to build public trust. Currently, there is a prevailing sentiment of dissatisfaction among the people regarding politicians and the civil service.

This has led to a public perception that political authority and the civil service are ineffective. Therefore, Dr. Amarasuriya said that establishing a strong, efficient, and people-centered civil service is a key goal of the government.

The Premier noted that the public expressed their decisions in the recent presidential election based on their experiences and observations from the past years. This election can be described as one that was driven by the people, rather than being merely managed by political parties.
