The tax burden on the public will be reduced in the next two years – The President
President Ranil Wickremesinghe says that by securing agreements with the International Monetary Fund, eight countries that have lent money to Sri Lanka, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank, the burden of taxes on the public will be eased within the next two years. According to the agreement with the IMF, the aim is to increase public revenue, strengthen the rupee, and provide relief.
The President mentioned that if taxes are reduced outside of this agreement, it would lead to the collapse of the country’s economy. He made this statement while addressing a rally held in Ja-Ela yesterday. Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had reduced taxes, claiming that it would improve the economy. However, what happened was the collapse of the country’s economy.
The president said that current politicians Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, are only offering promises focused on political goals rather than addressing the country’s and people’s future. The President pointed out that if they genuinely cared about the people, they would have taken over the country in 2002 when faced with economic challenges.
The presidential candidate of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sajith Premadasa promises to provide every possible relief for the farming community. He confirmed this during a public meeting held in Medawachchiya yesterday, stating that he will fulfill his promises in this manner.
