Chairman of the Election Commission, R. M. A. L. Rathnayake, has announced that representatives from 12 countries have been invited to observe the presidential election.
They are expected to provide a report after observing the election activities, including the presidential election. Election observers from the European Union have already arrived in the country.
Additionally, observers from the Commonwealth and the Asian Election Monitoring Network are expected to arrive in the near future. The Chairman stated that permission was granted for election observation based on requests from these organizations.
Official poll cards will be handed over to the postal service on the 2nd of next month. The 8th of next month has been declared a special day for distributing official poll cards, with distribution expected to be completed by the 14th.
Voters who do not receive their official poll cards can obtain them by confirming their identity at the relevant postal office based on their registered address in the 2024 electoral list.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission will meet next Wednesday to discuss the Supreme Court’s decision regarding local government elections and to determine appropriate future actions.
General Election Commissioner Saman Sri Rathnayake emphasized that the law on regulating election expenses has the potential to significantly alter the political culture in the country. Speaking at a media briefing held today by the Government Information Department, he noted that this has been a long-awaited law.
