More candidates Join election debate

Two additional presidential candidates have confirmed their participation for the first phase of the presidential election debate scheduled for September 7.

Accordingly, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and former Member of Parliament P. Ariyanethram, who is also a presidential candidate, have confirmed their attendance.

Presidential candidate Dilith Jayaweera had previously confirmed his participation. The second and third phases of the debate will be held on September 8 and 9.

Candidates wishing to participate in these debates, which will take place at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo, must submit their interest to the March-12 organization by noon on Saturday. The March-12 Movement is responsible for organizing these debates to promote clean politics.

Additionally, a Media Monitoring and Voter Awareness Centre has been established, comprising leading media experts, scholars, and professional journalists.

The centre aims to strengthen democratic values in the country and ensure that media activities adhere to ethical and professional standards. Its purpose is to ensure a disciplined political culture.
