Steps have been taken to educate police officials regarding the elections law.

The Police headquarters say that steps have been taken to educate senior police officials and OICs regarding the elections law. The Police Headquarters further said that the process will commence today.

Relevant officials in the entire Island will be educated step by step. This process will be done by the Election Commissioner and the Legal officers of the police department.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has set-up an in-house team to monitor and investigate complaints received over false information on social media applications and platforms to ensure a free and fair election.

Elections Deputy Commissioner General Piyumi Artigala said social media applications, platforms and websites most popular among the youth in the country who will get their first opportunity to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election, such as TikTok, Instagram besides YouTube and Facebook, will be investigated.

Those will be investigated based on complaints received on election violation material published, to check if they are violating the community standards, guidelines and election laws regulated by the Election Commission and will take action to inform the administration of those social media applications and websites using different methods to verify on complaints received.
