All Sri Lankan women to work together to create a strong economy – The President
President Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that hunger is a non-partisan issue and called on all women in Sri Lanka to work together to create a strong economy for future generations by alleviating the burdens faced by the people.
He emphasized the struggles of mothers who sacrificed their own meals to ensure their children could go to school and reminded everyone that the public will not forget how some leaders, who now speak about patriotism and the people’s suffering, abandoned their responsibilities in the face of challenges.
The President made these remarks while addressing a women’s conference yesterday at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo, themed “Women’s Power.”
The event saw participation from numerous leaders and representatives of major women’s organizations and branch societies across the island, regardless of their political affiliations.
The representatives of these organizations pledged their full support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s plan to stabilize the country’s recovering economy and guide it toward progress.
In his remarks, President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that despite the challenging economic conditions, he has consistently prioritized advancing women’s rights in the country.
He noted that the Women’s Empowerment Act has already been approved, and various measures have been implemented to ensure that women have equal rights under the law, creating a legal framework that upholds their rights alongside those of men.
