The Elections Commission seeks public support to conduct a free and fair election. Chairman of the Elections Commission R.M.A.L Rathnayaka says that the background for a free and fair election has already been setup in the country.

Joining the Subharathi Discussion Programme of the SLBC, the Chairman said that measures will be taken to prevent the misuse of state properties for the election.

An election secretariat has been setup to control election violence. A police team headed by a DIG has been appointed to the relevant secretariat. Similar secretariats will also be setup along with all district election secretariats.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka says a total of 24 candidates have so far placed cash deposits for the upcoming Presidential Election.

This includes 11 candidates representing recognized political parties, 12 Independent candidates whose names have been nominated by a voter and one candidate from other political parties.
