Vandersay spin attack crushes India

Leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay had a fantastic game, taking 6 wickets for 33 runs, while skipper Charith Asalanka supported him well with 3 wickets for 20 runs. This helped Sri Lanka win by 32 runs against India in their second ODI at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

India, chasing a target of 241, got off to a strong start with Skipper Rohit Sharma’s impressive 64 off 44 balls and Subman Gill’s contribution of 35 runs in 44 balls.

The pair established a promising 97-run partnership in just 13.3 overs. However, it was Jeffrey Vandersay’s exceptional bowling spell that brought a twist in the game, as he claimed a stunning 6 wickets for 20 runs in his first seven overs, shaking India’s powerful batting line-up.

In addition, off-spinner Charith Asalanka played a crucial supporting role by securing a 3-wicket haul, ultimately leading to India’s dismissal for 208 runs in 42.2 overs. Sri Lanka, after drawing their first game, made a strong comeback to take a 1-0 series lead with one match remaining.
