past rulers pursued their political ambitions through nationalism – Anura
Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that while past rulers pursued their political ambitions through nationalism, his government will not tolerate nationalism.
Speaking at a public rally in Kinniya, he noted that while the Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim communities in Sri Lanka do not embrace nationalism, the country’s politics remain nationalist.
He pointed out that the main battle lines of past governments have been shaped by nationalism. Mr. Dissanayake further said that when such nationalist governments were established, they engaged in nationalist actions. He emphasized that in the future, what is needed is a government that rejects nationalism.
