The policy statement of presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe was unveiled this morning in Colombo. It has been named “Five Years to Win the Country with Ranil,” and it encompasses five main areas: the economic framework of the free market, activities beyond 2025, transforming into a radiant society, winning the motherland, and a united Sri Lanka.
This can also be viewed through the website www.ranil2024.lk. President Ranil Wickremesinghe mentioned that the document includes proposals that can be implemented immediately to establish economic stability.
He emphasized that the economy should not be destroyed by empty promises and that the country should not be changed by new economic policies. Instead, a clear economic policy has been introduced in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund and lending countries, and it should be followed.
The policy statement includes initiatives such as agricultural modernization, energy production, and digitization, along with several other necessary projects. During the initial phase, it aims to create one hundred thousand income-generating jobs. For industrial training, the amount provided to young individuals will be 50,000 Rupees.
The President’s policy statement also outlines that starting next year a cost of living expense allowance of 25,000 Rupees per month will be paid to all state employees. Additionally, the minimum starting salary in the public sector will be increased by approximately 24%. With the living expense allowance, the gross salary will be 55,000 Rupees. Salaries for other positions will be proportionally adjusted.
State employees under the age of 40 will be given paid leave to undertake courses aimed at improving job efficiency. There will also be a system for promotions based on skills. Laptops, tablets, and smartphones will be provided to state employees on an easy payment basis. State employees without housing will be given priority in the new government housing program. Disparities in pensioners’ salaries will be addressed, and a special job quota will be introduced for the community with special needs.
