Accepting nominations for the presidential election will take place at the commission’s auditorium at Rajagiriya from 9.00 to 11.00 AM on Thursday
The elections commission says that accepting nominations will take place at the commission’s auditorium at Rajagiriya from 9.00 to 11.00 AM on Thursday the 15th of August. Filing objections can be done from 11 to 11.30 am.
The Elections Commission announced that the deposit money for the Presidential Election can be placed until 12 noon on August 14th the day before the calling of nominations for the election.
A total of 27 candidates have so far placed cash deposits for the Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, Presidential candidates will be barred from lavish spending unchecked this time, because the Elections Commission is slated to introduce a ceiling on spending on campaigning in respect of each voter, according to the new law enacted this time, an official said. The current Presidential Election is the first to be conducted in terms of the newly introduced Campaign Finance Act.
According to an official of the Elections Commission, the amount of money a candidate can spend will be determined in consultations with all contestants after acceptance of nominations.
