Radio announcer and news anchor in Sri Lanka, Sumana Nellampitiya passed away.
Sumana Nellampitiya, Veteran Radio announcer and the country’s first television news anchor, has passed away. She was 80 years old at the time of her demise.
She has a distinguished career in electronic media spanning 42 years,
Nellampitiya officially joined the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation in 1967 as a relief announcer. Over the years, she explored various roles, including presenting, scriptwriting, editing, and producing programs. A versatile talent, she eventually transitioned to television, making history as the island’s first television news presenter.
Her remains will be brought to her residence at the Torrington Gardens in Colombo 07 tomorrow. Remains will be placed at the SLBC premises on Saturday morning. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
