Deadline for postal voting applications extended.

The Election Commission has announced that the deadline for accepting applications for postal voting in the 2024 General Election, which was scheduled to end at last midnight, has been extended until midnight tomorrow.

The Elections Commissioner General said that this decision was made in consideration of the possible postal delays and several requests made by the public to the commission.

Furthermore, the election regulatory body has also advised that it is more appropriate to hand over the postal vote applications completed today  and tomorrow by hand to the district election office of the relevant district, instead of handing them over to post offices, in order to avoid the possible delays.

The Election Commission also noted that the application deadline will not be extended further under any circumstances.

Acceptance of nominations for the Parliamentary General Election ends at 12.00 noon on Friday. Acceptance of cash deposits for contesting the election will also end at 12.00 noon on Friday.

So far, seven recognized political parties and 13 independent groups have submitted their nominations for the parliamentary general elections.
