Strictly forbidden to hold demonstrations after the submission of nominations

Commissioner General of Election Saman Sri Ratnayake says that it is strictly forbidden to hold demonstrations after the submission of nominations related to the parliamentary general election.

He therefore urges everyone to follow the electoral law. After accepting the nominations, the preference numbers belonging to the respective candidate will be issued. Meanwhile, he said that the amount that can be spent by a candidate will be announced in the near future.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Talduwa said that a special security program has been implemented for the premises of receiving nominations. The security program has been prepared to apply to the districts.

Acceptance of nominations related to the general election started today. Nominations can be submitted until 1200 noon on the 11th. Acceptance of postal applications related to the General Election is now underway. The Election Commission announces that it will accept applications until the 8th of this month.

Meanwhile, 86 independent groups have made deposits for the general election. The largest number of independent groups have deposited their pledges from the electoral districts of Batticaloa, Jaffna, Digamadulla and Colombo.

The Election Commission says that no incident related to the general election has been reported so far. Chairman of the commission R. M. A. L Ratnayake said that the commission expects everyone’s cooperation to protect the peaceful atmosphere in the coming period.
