Accordingly, children under 12 years are given free access to national zoological garden , dehiwela and pinnawala elephant sanctuary. The children are given free ride and elephant safari on that day.
Director of National Zoological Gardens said many more awareness programs are organized to educate the children on environment , forest reserve and children entertainment as well.
In the meantime the education ministry has given strict instructions that teachers cannot collect funds from parents for various school events including children’s day. The ministry has informed all principals of the schools in this regard.
