China reaffirms strong partnership with Sri Lanka
Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, stated that China has always acted as a reliable friend and valuable partner to Sri Lanka. He acknowledged that the Sri Lankan people successfully concluded a Presidential Election recently, marking a new chapter in their history as they step into a new era.
He also emphasized that China, along with other friendly nations, will support the initiatives of the current President. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the new leadership has the strength to revive the national economy, which is facing challenges.
He made these remarks during an event held in Colombo yesterday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, attended by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.
Foreign Minister Herath appreciated the support Sri Lanka received from China during the economic crisis. He also noted that China has successfully completed numerous projects in Sri Lanka under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Minister further acknowledged China’s support for the ongoing debt restructuring program. He expressed optimism that more Chinese tourists will visit Sri Lanka in the future under the newly introduced free visa program.
