Official poll cards to households will end today.
The Deputy Postmaster Rajitha Ranasinghe announced that the distribution of official poll cards to households will end today. Currently, 84% of these papers have been distributed. 1.45 million official poll cards have been delivered to households so far.
Those who have not yet received their papers can collect them from the nearest post office starting from Wednesday to Saturday by confirming their identity.
Additional Election Commissioner Rasika Peiris, who joined the National Radio’s “Subharathi” program this morning, stated that a copy of the poll cards can also be obtained by visiting the Election Commission’s website.
During the presidential election, presenting the official election notification paper is not mandatory for casting a vote. Voters can cast their vote by confirming their identity.
Acceptable forms of identification include a national identity card, a passport, a valid driver’s license, a senior citizen’s identity card, an identity card issued for clergy, a temporary identity card issued for disabled individuals, and also a temporary identity card issued by the Election Commission upon request from the Grama Niladhari officer.
Mr. Peiris stated that if no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes during the presidential election count, a second preference count will be necessary. This procedure is only followed for the two candidates who receive the highest number of votes.
