The Election Commission says special security measures have been put in place for the upcoming elections, with both the Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force (STF).
The Commission said to armed forces will be stationed outside counting centre complexes. According to the Election Commission, the enhanced security aims to prevent unauthorised individuals from accessing the premises, ensuring that only those with proper permission can enter.
EC Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake explained that the Sri Lanka Police would deploy 54,000 personnel for various election duties. In addition to this deployment, the EC has requested further personnel specifically for securing the areas outside counting centres.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson DIG Nihal Talduwa said that they intended to deploy two officers for each centre and there will be more than 13,000 polling centres islandwide.
