Legal advice is being sought regarding the local government elections.

State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura has stated that legal advice is being sought regarding the procedures for handling the nomination of candidates for local government elections.

He pointed out that there are several issues related to the nominations submitted for local government elections last year.

If the election is conducted based on these nominations, it could result in more than a million eligible voters being unable to cast their votes.

Additionally, it could deprive other individuals who have turned 18 years old of the opportunity to stand as candidates.
