All arrangements are in place to conduct the election – Commissioner
Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake has stated that all arrangements are in place to conduct the presidential election in a free and fair manner.
The postal voting for the presidential election will take place on the 4th, 5th, and 6th of September. All necessary instructions have been issued for this process. He requests postal voters to cast their votes on the allocated dates.
Campaign activities for the presidential election will end at midnight on the 18th of September. Observers from the European Union and the Commonwealth have already arrived in the country to monitor the election. A group of South Asian election observers is also expected to arrive soon.
The Election Commissioner mentioned that marking a preference is not mandatory during the voting process. Voters can express their vote by marking a cross in the space next to their preferred candidate’s name.
However, marking a preference is not allowed. Voters have the option to mark preferences for up to three candidates, denoted as 01, 02, and 03. If a preference mark is made, the cross cannot be used. Using a cross will invalidate the vote.
These details were shared by the Commissioner General during a program on National Radio.
