Shahmy Shaheed completes 1,500-Kilometer walk

Shahmy Shaheed, a young man from Beruwala, received recognition from President Ranil Wickremesinghe for his remarkable achievement of walking 1,500 kilometers around Sri Lanka in just 45 days. Starting and ending in his hometown, Shahmy’s journey took him through major cities and picturesque locations, including Ambalangoda, Hambantota, Nilaveli, and Point Pedro, among others. His trek aimed to demonstrate the peace and safety of Sri Lanka, encouraging both locals and foreigners to explore the country without hesitation.

Shahmy actively used social media to document and share his experiences, effectively promoting lesser-known tourist spots and showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and natural heritage. His efforts not only highlighted the island’s beauty but also provided a significant boost to the tourism industry at a crucial time.

In a ceremony at the President’s official residence in Colombo, President Wickremesinghe commended Shahmy for his dedication and the positive impact of his journey. The President presented him with a special commemorative gift.
