The new online system for issuing passports will begin today.

Acting Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, Nilushaa Balasuriya, says that the new online system for issuing passports will be launched from today.

Applications can be made by visiting the official website of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, www.immigration.gov.lk, and clicking on the link “Book an appointment for a passport”.

She states that due to the new online system, those wishing to book a date will no longer need to visit the department.

The Controller General of Immigration and Emigration requests the public to refrain from paying money to any other institution or party as it is possible to access this service using a computer or mobile phone.

Attempting to access using illegal online methods will further delay the ability to book a date.

The Acting Controller General said that for technical issues in this regard, answers can be obtained by contacting the 1919 Government Information Centre.
